Asia rattled by N. Korean Nuclear test, recovers...
Apparently not much going on in overseas trade even after Asian markets (especially KOSPI) were jolted by North Korea's nuclear test. Shortly after the initial shock however, Asia seemed to settle back to business as usual even though I'm concerned the ripple effect might bleed over into US trade this morning. Fortunately, no signs of such are apparent as of shortly past midnite Chi-time.
On the other hand this week will bring with it a pair of CRUNCH dates as (Wednesday) BK court is set to pass on the Chrysler/Fiat takeover being widely decried by the Chrysler dealer network. Then we have another such CRUNCH on tap for the 1st as GM's fate is likely to be announced - I hear rumors GM may decide to file BK a day or two early to (evidently) protect payments to their supplier net rather than place them on hold as the checkbook falls to the BK judge.
Asia rattled yesterday by No. Korean nuclear test, recovers shortly thereafter....
The North's neighbor and long-time benefactor, China, said it was "resolutely opposed" to the test. Russia, which called the test a threat to regional security, said the blast was about equal in power to the U.S. atom bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Nagasaki in World War Two, or about 20 times larger than the North's one kiloton test in 2006. But the Vienna-based Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization contested that, saying the magnitude of the latest test was "slightly higher than in 2006, measuring 4.52 on the Richter scale, while in 2006it was 4.1.
