Asia Tentatively Higher - US Futures Mixed
Asia showing slight but definite gains while overnight US futures trade is almost perfectly balanced leaning decidedly neither higher or lower a/o 22:35 CDT....
COMMODITIES however were incontrovertibly lower.
SINGAPORE (MarketWatch) -- Asian share markets were slightly higher Monday though the mood was somewhat cautious after a mixed performance by Wall Street on Friday. Oil and resource stocks were on the decline in Tokyo, though mostly on the rise in Sydney.
Japan's Nikkei 225 was up 0.1% with Hong Hong's Hang Seng Index the standout, 2.1% higher. South Korea's Kospi Composite was 0.3% higher and New Zealand's NZX-50 up 0.7%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 had nudged up 0.2%.
Trading volume was low and markets overall looked very choppy. Analysts said investors were inclined to cash out on any push higher in stocks, with the mood very trading-based. Some funds though might step in before the end of the month, they added.
Oil and commodity stocks fell in Tokyo with Inpex down 2.6%, Itochu off 1.2% and Nippon Yusen 2.3% lower. They were fading in Sydney with BHP Billiton up 1.3%, Fortescue up 1.8%, Origin Energy 1.5% higher and Rio Tinto down 2.6%.
