HK shares extend slide despite policy reassurance
While Asia struggles with overbought angst, the selloff overnite was substantially less than that seen the previous session especially in Shanghai. Asia markets fall a second day; Shanghai off 1 pct
By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ, AP Business Writer
HONG KONG – Asian stock markets fell Thursday, with Chinese shares leading the decline amid concerns the recent rally was overdone.
Shanghai's market pulled back over 1 percent in back-and-forth trade, after losing 5 percent Wednesday on worries the government would dam the flow of bank lending and reduce liquidity that's pushed share prices skyward this year.
Traded was choppy in other markets, while oil prices were down modestly after plummeting overnight. Japanese shares fell even as major carmakers like Nissan Motor and Honda Motor jumped over 7 percent after stronger-than-expected earnings.
HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Chinese authorities are likely to unveil a mixed bag of policies in coming months that will help fine-tune the pace of credit growth without shifting from its accommodative stance that has seen more than $1 trillion of lending in the first half, according to analysts.
