June jobless rate seen rising to 9.6 percent
Asian shares rose intermittantly while remaining on tinderhooks over today's upcoming employment situation report which is expected to have risen but not (yet) to the infamous 10% benchmark... Overnite US futures remain reflective of such concerns with DOW futures trading around 38 points light of yesterday's close a/o 02:45 CDT...

WASHINGTON – Out-of-work with no place to land, the legions of America's unemployed are growing.
The Labor Department is scheduled to release a report Thursday expected to show the nation's unemployment rate edging closer to double digits. Wall Street economists predict the jobless rate will rise to 9.6 percent in June from 9.4 percent in May. That would mark a 26-year high.
The rising rate comes as recession-weary companies continue to cut workers. Economists expect a loss of 363,000 jobs in June, up from 345,000 job cuts in May. Economists believe a chunk of those cuts will be tied to shutdowns at General Motors Corp. and fallout from the troubled auto industry.
Nikkei falls before US jobs data, but Hitachi gains 2:40am EDT
TOKYO, July 2 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average fell 0.6 percent on Thursday, dented by a fall in blue-chip shares as caution set in ahead of U.S. jobs data, but Hitachi jumped on a report it will boost production of lithium ion batteries for hybrid cars.
