Stock futures flat as CIT angst offsets JPMorgan
The below charts paint an interesting (and clear) picture of euphoria on the wane. Check out the N225 and Hang Seng which popped right out of the gate, seemed to meander seeking direction in late morning only to slide into a close (still higher, but) nowhere near the apex of the earlier good feelings. Fast forward to the FTSE and DAX opening lower but seeming to convince themselves to work higher to a breakeven with yesterday's close by time the pubs opened for Watney's Red & Shepherd's Pie...... US Index screen trade too close to call. Today we got weekly jobs data expected essentially static with a little "joy" in the continuing dole numbers, probably scewed by "seasonal adjustments" to the point the report is useless for all practical purposes. Then, the Philly Fed Index rumored to quadruple last munth's bad news at least in the numerical sense... And there's always CIT - a company I've despised most of my life in it's original format but which apparently re-invented itself by delving into inventory and other financing lines to small businesses. I have to wonder what their implosion will do to Mom & Pop enterprises Nationwide...

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Stock futures were little changed on Thursday as a jump in quarterly profit at JPMorgan Chase & Co(JPM.N) was overshadowed by investor angst about the future of lender CIT Group Inc and caution ahead of a key report on the labor market.
JPMorgan's second quarter results topped Wall Street's estimates, continuing a stream of reassuring news on bank earnings after Goldman Sachs Group (GS.N) posted similarly stronger results on Tuesday.
But the market was confronted by news that bankruptcy loomed over small-business lender CIT (CIT.N) a day after Wall Street racked its biggest three-day gain since March.
