Futures point to mixed open ahead BoA, Citi
UPDATE2!! Housing starts surge as did new construction permits in today's pre-opening report. No effect as yet on screen trade but - call me stupid if it makes you feel good - this seems like watching the entertainment news or reading "People Magazine" to get your economic bearings... I mean do we really NEED more supply overhanging this market??
UPDATE1!! BoA beats street by 4 cents - Lewis warns moving forward - GE earnings down on GE Credit losses but better than expected - net effect on opening essentially nil thus far...
A decidededly mixed bag overnite as Asia's Hang Seng and Mumbai Indices fairly soar against Jakarta's bomb-related decline - Europes's Vienna and Milano Indices shave off about a (%) point (no reported bombings, thank God) against a backdrop of broad but moderate (less than a % point) gains. US screen trade up a bit on NASDAQ and S&P, while still (a/o 05:45 CDT) off a smidge on the DOW.....

(Reuters) - Dow Jones futures were down 0.01 percent by 4.38 a.m. ET while S&P 500 futures ticked down 0.05 percent and Nasdaq futures rose 0.3 percent, suggesting a mixed start for U.S. stocks on Friday after four days of gains. The focus is likely to be on second-quarter results from Bank of America and Citigroup as well as industrial bellwether General Electric. After Thursday's closing bell, shares rose 3 percent after the company sharply raised its full-year earnings forecast. IBM shares in Frankfurt were up 3.1 percent, after blowing away second-quarter profit projections and jacking up its full-year earnings forecast. Google shares fell 1.5 percent in extended trade on Thursday after the internet search company's results beat Wall Street expectations, but the weak economy and slump in advertising spending took a toll on revenue growth and the price of search ads.
