Commodity ETFs
I've long been an opponent of Commodities ETFs/ETNs and as a matter of fact am currently struggling to paste together a piece outlining their shortcomings while implicitly (I hope) contrasting those weaknesses against the more "pure" plays available through Managed Futures portfolios. Fortunately for me (or perhaps I should say "us" as futures types), the regulators seem to be coming to question the concept of ETFs as well. To be sure, the regulators are addressing the vagaries from another angle - yet no matter the angle, if it helps make my case, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". I'm not proud of that sentiment but if it helps me to actualize my firm belief that MF is a better (but still imperfect) way to diversify more conventional portfolio constructs, I'll take my chances at having to answer to Saint Peter one of these days.

Concerns over the future of the commodity ETFs continue to grow amid news of CFTC investigations, with John Hyland, United States Commodity Funds; Matt Hougan, IndexUniverse.com; and CNBC's Bob Pisani.
