Nikkei posts highest close in a month
UPDATE!! A/O 04:20 CDT, Dow futures up 39 points while....
Euro-markets were higher in early Monday trade, with banks and oils taking the lead outweighing a drop in Dutch bank/insurer ING. Pan-Euro FTSEurofirst up 0.4 at 1,013.30 points. On Euro earnings expectations (beginning later this week) analysts tend to expect pretty good numbers, but again are looking to see whether results are due to continuing costs cuts or signs of order uptakes. ING fell 4 percent after the company said it would split itself in two and launched a 7.5 billion euro rights issue to repay some of its state aid.
Nikkei posts highest close in a month on Monday, lifted by exporters such as Honda on a weaker yen, while Kawasaki Heavy Equipment jumped on a high-speed rail project report in China. Market players said the weaker yen as well as optimism about Japan's earnings season, which heads into full swing later this week, helped push up the market. The Nikkei225 climbed 0.8 percent or 79.63 points to 10,362.62, its highest finish since Sept. 24 while the broader Topix advanced 1 percent to 910.72. Chinese mainland closed on extended weekend.
European shares were set to rise on Monday, recovering some ground lost in the previous session, after Japan hit a four-week closing high. At 0706 GMT, DJ Euro Stoxx futures were up 0.3 percent, Germany's DAX futures were up 0.4 percent and France's CAC-40 futures were up 0.4 percent.
A/O 03:00 CDT, Dow futures up 26 points.
