Early Asian reaction to Yuan flotation
Those of you who read our weekend annoyance emails know the Chi-Coms have announced their intent to allow the Yuan/Dollar cross-rate to float within a widely-expected +/- 5% range. They've indicated any appreciation will be managed at a gradual pace so as not to disrupt already fragile financial markets. Early pre-opening indications in US index futures yield an approximate 1.5% to 2.5% higher opening with primary strength in the US Industrials followed by the US Tech sector as the competitive Chi-Com price advantage is assuaged by currency translation. A higher Yuan should also enhance purchasing power of the already aggressively acquisitive Chinese citizenry. Below is the first reaction posted from CNBC's Asian desk.

A stronger yuan will be positive for commodity prices, says Jonathan Barratt, MD of Commodity Broking Services. He tells Jim McCaughan of Principal Global Investors, CNBC's Karen Tso, Martin Soong & Sri Jegarajah why rising prices won't derail the global recovery.
