Friday's September Payrolls Preview
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The payrolls report for September is expected to continue to show that the labor market is languishing, economists said Thursday ahead of the release of the government’s closely watched survey.
Total nonfarm payrolls are expected to fall by 8,000 in September as the government continues to shed more temporary Census workers than are created by the private sector. Unemployment rate expected to rise a tick.
Understanding the government's payrolls report: Commissioner Keith Hall of the Bureau of Labor Statistics tells MarketWatch's Ruth Mantell how the government compiles the monthly nonfarm payrolls report and explains the "birth-death" model, the household survey and the establishment survey.
