Though posted out of (time) order, I did so in light of events surrounding CME's announcement last week. My point is to let you know my objection to the effort to "maximize shareholder return" (which is actually the core motivation) is not (solely) based on an old man's unwillingness to give up the "old ways" - neither is it entirely based on the fact many old friends will be negatively impacted.
It seems almost shocking to me that no one seems to be discussing the risks to our financial system when new hack attacks of significant scale are announced weekly.
The Internet clearly leaks like a sieve and our best and brightest seem pathetically unable to counter the efforts of hostile Governments, mobsters or talented nerds to mine the resource for all the Gold or power or influence they desire.
From this (admitted) layman's POV, I wonder why the most obvious initial solution isn't being widely adopted even if it's only a first step (talking biometrics here).
Drifted slightly off point there, but my concern regarding CME has to do with price discovery of both financial indices and essential food and energy stuff(s?) in a worst-case Geo-Political scenario.
Maintaining some level of professional human back-up or professionally expert "creative solution wizards" seems an obvious initial step.
Perhaps this is what CME has in mind when they allude to keeping "some" pits open. Unfortunately for me, with events of the last few years in mind, I simply no longer possess that level of confidence in either the private OR public sector.
