SEC May Reinstate Rules for Short-Selling Stocks
CNBC article on SEC reinststement of uptick rule appears online and is available in PDF format by clicking the headline....
Now things have changed a lot while I was in retirement but the uptick rule when I was a stockbroker in the '80's specified short positions could only be put of after an uptick (duh) but the difference is that an uptick back then was 12.5 cents or 1/8 point (then, the minimum tick).
NOW, with decimalized trading an uptick is only a penny. I have to wonder how much help such a reinststement would be (although it beats a poke in the eye with a dull stick)!
