Dr. J on what it'll take to get him back IN these markets!!
Yeah, I know this guy too - can't say we hang out at the local dive daily but spent enough time at Ceres' in the CBOT that we can (and do) laugh at each other's quirks. I can say totally sans reservation, his "Cajones" are bigger than my entire countenance - when he feels strongly - he USES them to make important points. That said, I've never either heard of or seen him do so out of agression or meanness. So I would (and I DO) pay attention to his thought processes knowing he's an Options freak while I'm just a FREAK (with a Futures Fetish). There is undeniable crossover between our shared interests but it's not "omnipresent".

Mobius on 20 years in emerging markets
The youngsters amongst you won't remember this but I followed Mobius fanatically in the late 1980s when he worked for Sir John Templeton as emerging markets gadfly and became perhaps the PREMIER money manager worldwide - not by trading - but by physically travelling the world (primarily Asia) seeking opportunities (which he found aplenty) and which may have been singularly responsible for the "Asian Mini-Tiger" phenomenon wherein the previously ignored second and third-tier countries fairly led the world in GDP growth all the way up until a crash in the Thai Baht (currency) bled into ever larger countries teetering on the brink of default ultimately causal to the Japanese Tokyo real estate crash and thence contributing to the unwinding of the Yen carry trade - eventually bringing LTCM to it's knees... That said, Mobius' had begun pulling back his allocations - seeing the handwriting on the wall and probably contributing to the meltdown while rushing to protect his (and Templeton's) client portfolios.. As such, I'd listen to his prognistications were I you - besides, he and I happen to have the same hair-dresser!
Mark Mobius, executive chairman of Franklin Templeton Investments, talks to MarketWatch's Tom Bemis about the changes in emerging markets investing over the past two decades and his outlook for China and for frontier markets in Africa, Latin America and Asia...
