Asia weakens on strong post-election Yen - China rate angst
Asian markets were weaker overnite as Japan's opposition party gained power initially causing a relief rally which almost immediately gave way to effects of a rallying Yen which (like here) caused valuations as expressed in the native currency to fall. Hong Kong weaker but Shanghai seems to have taken the lead in Chinese share price discovery and that market plunged some 5% on fears of a full-blown tightening regime just around the bend. Overnite US screen trade hinting at a 50-60 point lower DOW opening a/o about 23:30 CDT…
Japan's Nikkei average dropped on Monday as a stronger yen sent shares of exporters lower, erasing earlier gains to an 11-month high after an election win by the opposition. The relief rally on the opposition win was followed by a higher Yen in expectation of a new path to recovery which, just as here in the US, simply caused equities valuations to drop on both real and expected further rises in the native currency within a market bereft of normal cross-market correlations.
Hong Kong shares expected to open 1.4 percent lower on Monday, heading for its first monthly loss in six months, as Shanghai-listed stocks dived in early trade amid worries about a surge of new shares. China Merchants Bank was set to start about 4.6 lower after they raised their planned secondary offering target by 22 percent, due to a likely tightening of banks' capital adequacy rules by the Chi-Com Government..
Shanghai - China's main stock index fell more than 5 percent on Monday to a three-month low, breaking below the key 125-day moving average used by Chinese investors to delineate a bull versus a bear market, as a series of negative factors has relentlessly weighed down the market since early August
